INTERVIEW

KIND
WORDS

Why Roar? At 38, I discovered my writer’s voice and began to write like crazy about my observations of life...what troubles me, what delights me and what I have learned from other people’s lives and stories.  I have found this writing helps me to better understand my self, my world and other people. Sometimes I use my own stories or self as reference point, but always with the intention to represent our collective life as human beings and always hoping that my writing will connect with others through identifying the challenges and the humor of our everyday experiences that I release and give voice to. I believe this source that has inspired my writing is my deeper self, it’s the soul of me and I believe everyone has this entity in them as well, waiting to be unleashed in one way or another and when we do, we give it voice... we do indeed roar.--  Cheryl Perreault

Cheryl Perreault is a poet and  spoken word artist who performs poetic storytelling from her writings. She is often joined in by  the improvisational-style musical fusion of sologuitarist Steve Rapson. Their combined performances have been described as inspirational observations of everyday life that can be witty, emotionally riveting and embracing of our human condition. Themes in performance typically focus on the celebration of being human and address funny and touching observations of parenting and everyday family life, facing middle age and its wrinkles, recognizing the contributions of ethnic ancestors, trying to make the most out of getting lost on the backroads of Massachusetts and the immortalization of the little black dress. Steve Rapson has produced two cds of their collaboration of music and poetry including On Ants, Sandwiches and the Meaning of it all (soloperformer.com) and Roar. Cheryl Perreault's poetry has been published upon invitation and will soon be featured in May 2010 Somerset Studio as part of the art-form and article written by Becky Shander titled "Portable Prayers".
